How Dions Became a New Mexico Legend

It all started in 1978 when Dion Fonoti opened a small pizza counter in Albuquerque with a single oven and a big dream. What began as a neighborhood favorite quickly grew into a beloved institution. The original dion's pizza recipe — hand-tossed dough, scratch-made sauce, and the finest local ingredients — never changed.

1978

The First Slice

Dion Fonoti opens the original dion's pizza shop on Central Ave, Albuquerque with one oven, five tables, and a scratch-made recipe that would change everything.

1984

Second Location Opens

Demand pushed Dions to open its second location in Rio Rancho. The dions pizza concept proved it could scale without losing its homemade character.

1991

The Dion's Salad Bar Debut

We introduced our iconic fresh salad bar, expanding beyond pizza. The combination of hot pies and crisp salads became a Dions signature experience loved across New Mexico.

2001

10 Locations Milestone

Dions celebrated its 10th location opening in Santa Fe, cementing its status as New Mexico's most beloved pizzeria. Over 500,000 dions pizzas served that year alone.

2010

Community Roots Program

We launched our Community Roots initiative, donating over $1M to New Mexico schools, youth sports teams, and local non-profits — because dion's pizza is nothing without its people.

2018

40th Anniversary & Rebrand
